I got a few new puzzles from Wentworth, and in need of a relatively short solve, I pulled out the 240-piece “Frosted Fir Tree”, with artwork credited to “Alexandru Davidenco”. When I went to see more about this artist, I figured out this is actually AI-generated art. See the licensing shop, where this user has uploaded many different pieces, often many that are variations on one particular version, and in a wide variety of styles. )-8 Writing to Wentworth, because I like work by … people with artistic intelligence. I’m not prejudiced — when MurderBot starts doing art, I’m on board. But right now, “generative AI” is not yet actually intelligent. There’s no animating intelligence; just an assemblage of (visual or tetxual) content that clusters around textual prompts. Sigh.
I did the puzzle anyway, and enjoyed the etched whimsies, because, pagan trees, and also the two-part ornaments. Flipping it was a fail, because of the loose connections, but what the heck, you can get the sense of the back anyway.
