I think I can call these boats, right? not ships? From the Hoefnagel collection. This is a “Victory Puzzle”, from the original UK company of that name, from the 1950s, with about 350 pieces per Hoefnagel. Hoefnagel description:
350 pieces, hand-cut, irregular connectors. Victory Plywood Jig-saw Puzzles were made in the 1950s in England and this is a vintage puzzle from that era. The picture looks a lot like this photo, but is a bit different and more faded. Please be careful- very fragile.
UPDATE 2025/08/31 – Hey, look at that — I just did a different Victory puzzle (the new Victory) and was updating my files to clarify the distinction b/w original Victory Puzzles & modern Victory Puzzles, and I randomly decided to google to see if I could identify an artist for this one — and I did! Donald Grieg, 1916-2009, from this auction site for this image!
