marmoleum bathroom

The pink (interior) bathroom, original to the house, when we moved in had some terrible wallpaper & flooring. We repainted in 2014, and in 2015, we got rid of some truly hideous yellowy vinyl, that I thought looked horrible with the pale pink counter, the brown wood, and the brown tiles. We considered pink, but ultimately moved towards a pale green.

This was a learning process, while we learned about PVC (poly vinyl chloride) — the old flooring, with a fairly toxic manufacturing process, limited lifespan, and an inability to be recycled — and linoleum, which is a sustainable, clean flooring, based in part on linseed oil (“lin” –> linoleum). Marmoleum is a modern manufacturer of linoleum. It’s actually extremely cost-effective, and lasts much longer than PVC or vinyl flooring. And, when we or the next custodians of this home do feel the need to change up the color scheme, we can take out the old linoleum with a lighter conscience!

We got the marmoleum from the locally owned Summerlin Flooring, who also installed it.
