The colors are distinguishable, with time — but easily enough confused that I had assembled a couple of the segments and then had to pull out some close-but-not-quite matching pieces from the assembled segments, because they actually belonged to different puzzles. This was possible, because except for a small number of whimsies, the pieces were quite uniform — a grid of 27 round-edged cubes, with standard frames and insert pieces. About three or four different types of interchangeable pieces. So, a lot of careful color matching. And, since my glasses are lost, I kept having to use my phone camera to zoom in, and try to assess the pieces, or compare with the image on the box (which was small).

The source image is “The Outskirts of Kyoto Throughout the Seasons” (1926) by Ochiai Rofu, 1896-1937 (Google, Wikimedia) — in the collection of the Adachi Museum of Art (Yasugi, Shimane Prefecture).

This is a 333 piece wooden jigsaw puzzle of “Kyoto Four Scenes” by Ochiai Rofu.
