This 266-piece Optimago (1979-2005) puzzle is listed as an “Enigma”, with no image available. As with a lot of vintage puzzles, and puzzles made of old European art, the colors were a little bit muddy. They look a lot crisper in the photo than they did to my eyes! Maybe it’s my eyes that are muddy, come to think of it.
Anyway, it was a nice solve. Thanks, Hoefnagel!
The image is “Off for the Honeymoon“, by Frederick Morgan (1847-1927). Weirdly, some places on the Internet (and a label on the box itself) listed it as “anonymous” — that’s not particularly weird by itself, but these were discussions that talked about how the painting is attributed to Morgan but really should be attributed to Anonymous. I’ve also seen it titled “The Wedding.” But, Wikipedia links to Bonhams, an auction site, that notes the artist’s signature — Fred Morgan — and indeed, the signature is visible on the Bonhams website.
