As a very woodsy property, there are not large clumps of lawn; rather, these are clump grasses, rather than turf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Chasmanthium latifolium<\/em> (sea oats) &#8211; This was not growing on the property, but I added it &#8230;.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Danthonia spicata<\/em> (Poverty oatgrass) &#8211; Naturally occurring. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Deschampsia cespitosa<\/em> (Tufted hairgrass)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Deschampsia flexuosa<\/em>, aka <em>Avenella flexuosa<\/em> (Wavy hair-grass)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Dichanthelium oligosanthes<\/em> (Fewanther obscuregrass) &#8211; Naturally occurring. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Eragrostis spectabilis<\/em> (Purple lovegrass) &#8211; I keep trying to get this to take off. It&#8217;s probably too shady here. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Glyceria striata<\/em> (Fowl mannagrass) &#8211; Naturally occurring.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> <em>Leersia virginica<\/em> (Whitegrass) &#8211; Naturally occurring. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Panicum clandestinum<\/em> (Deertongue grass) &#8211; Naturally occurring.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Carex albursina<\/em> (White bear sedge) &#8211; Naturally occurring. Also, the best name.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Carex appalachica<\/em> (Appalachian sedge) &#8211; I have added some of this. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Carex blanda<\/em> (Eastern woodland sedge) &#8211; Naturally occurring.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Carex bromoides<\/em> (Brome-like sedge) &#8211; Naturally occurring.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Carex pedunculata<\/em> (Longstalk sedge) &#8211; Naturally occurring. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Carex pensylvanica<\/em> (Pennsylvania sedge) &#8211; I planted some of this around.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Carex plantaginea<\/em> (Seersucker sedge) &#8211; I&#8217;ve added in ornamental beds in the back yard.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Carex radiata<\/em> (Eastern star sedge) &#8211; Naturally occurring.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Carex rosea<\/em> (Rosy sedge) &#8211; I&#8217;ve added; not sure it&#8217;s taken. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Carex scabrata &#8211; Naturally occurring. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Carex sprengelii <\/em>(Sprengel&#8217;s sedge) &#8211; Naturally occurring. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Invasives &amp; escaped cultivated non-natives that pop up:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Agrostis capillaris<\/em> (Colonial bentgrass)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Anthoxanthum odoratum<\/em> (Sweet vernal grass)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Cyperus rotundus<\/em> (Nut grass)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Digitaria ischaemum<\/em> (Smooth crabgrass)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Digitaria sanguinalis<\/em> (Hairy crabgrass)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Poa annua<\/em> (Bluegrass)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Poa nemoralis<\/em> (Wood bluegrass)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Poa pratensis<\/em> (Kentucky bluegrass) &#8211; Neighbors planted grass, and we started seeing this pop up &#8230;. (Not actually native to North America, probably, but certainly not native to woodlands of Massachusetts)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Microstegium vimineum<\/em> (Japanese stiltgrass)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Miscanthus sinensis<\/em> (Chinese silver grass)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Schlerochloa dura<\/em> (Fairground grass)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>These native grasses have all been identified on our property!
