random quotes ... to amuse, inspire, enrage:
  So join us on a four-day exploration of this explosive issue: Evolution, Schmevolution, where we try to find out are we characters characters in a dubious fairy tale written thousands of years ago in the depths of human ignorance, or random globs of cells who got a little luckier than the shit that grows on our shower tiles.

Why are we here? And how did we get here? Not here, necessarily, but HERE.

For most of human history, the answer took the form of what were called creation myths, traditional stories explaining our origins.

They tended to follow a basic template. Typically a deity, either animalistic, anthropomorphic, or bearded, engages in some kind of mystical wondrous process [kills, rapes, swallows, excretes], that eventually produces the misshapen progenitors of the human race [mud people, fire people, fish people, small people] ... and thus becomes Man.

These myths comforted Man, by allowing him to laugh at other cultures' creation myths. For instance, 'The Aztecs say we were dug out of the earth by a giant pig. Everyone knows we sprouted from the heavenly ear of corn! We really should kill them.'

But the rise of Christianity brought a new creation story to the fore. In six days, man was formed from a lump of clay, and woman sprung forth from man's rib. It just made sense.

"nothing of this sort will happen in the future"

матрациFacebook has deleted “Everybody Draw Mohammed Day!”, a user-created page, and apologized to the Pakistani government which had blocked Facebook. A Pakistani minister said Facebook had assured them that “nothing of this sort will happen in the future”.

Yeah, good luck with that. And fuck you, Facebook. How about not knuckling under to paternalistic theocratic states that block Internet access for millions of people?

See:

* and, yes, wikipedia

You can’t see http://www.facebook.com/pages/Everybody-Draw-Mohammed-Day/121369914543425?ref=ts..plz which redirects you to facebook, nor can I find a cache of the site on Google or on the Internet Archive.
