IMO, the NY decision is worse than the GA decision. Both because there was widespread hope for NY and not so much for GA, and also because of the underlying issues.

In NY, the issue was queer people trying to get married. In GA, the issue was "is banning recognition of gay marriage and civil unions one issue or two?" The lower court said two; the GA SCt said one.

They were wrong, but if they had said "two" the result would have been two new ballot horrible anti-gay ballot initiatives in GA in November.

Even the shortest possible term result of a "good" decision would only have taken anti-gay discriminiation out of the GA constitution, not out of state law entirely, and not to affirmatively recognize our relationships at all.

The funniest/most ironic thing is the way the GA Governor has been saying "Gay people shouldn't feel marginalized by this decision. They're welcome to live and work here. They just can't get married." Thanks. I love paying taxes on my imputed income for the cost of Jill's health insurance.
