LQ -- ...and Hatch's views fall squarely in the IP-maximalist camp (and I'm inclined to believe that the rest of the committee leans the same way, although maybe more out of default than of conviction). I would love to hear some competent dialogue on these issues *from both sides* in front of a national audience, but, alas, I think you are right. It's all but a dream.

What a sweet fantasy. Or maybe not -- the only member of the Committee that I know is particularly interested in IP & copyright is Orrin Hatch.

Excellent blog name. I will link right away!

Thanks for the great legwork on this -- over at <a href="http://righttocreate.blogspot.com/" rel="nofollow">Right to Create</a> we <a href="http://righttocreate.blogspot.com/2005/10/us-supreme-court-patents.html" rel="nofollow">were hoping someone would give a little Alito IP history</a>.

Now, the interesting thing will be whether the Judiciary Committee asks any questions of Alito on how he feels about copyright, patents, and the constitution.

File under recent and relevant: Alito on Copyright

The fine folks over at Copyfight give us this today: Alito on Copyright.

The story sounds a bit ominous at first, citing Alito's "marked tendency to enforce contracts as written" (and Copyfight here is quoting Laura Quilter quoting Ideoblog). Quilter and Copyfight's Donna Wentworth note that this may be of great concern, especially for those interested in EULAs, shrink/click wrap licenses, and reverse-engineering. By the way, for a list of other decisions/opinions and links to other blogs and sites with info on Alito, give Quilter's post a good read. [...]

Alito on Copyright

Laura Quilter has the (still-developing) scoop on how a future Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito might handle the tricky copyright, First Amendment, and "cyberlaw" policy issues that will impact the future of Internet communications. An intriguing snippet for those of us concerned about anti-consumer EULAs, box-wrap/click-wrap licensing, and the future of reverse-engineering: [...]
